Happy Hump Day!

Thank goodness the week is half over. Does anybody else feel like time is just flying right by? I was thinking about what I wanted to write today, and I really want to focus on items that are going to help those of us that work from home and will save us money. In my home office, I have what I think are the top of the line printers, copiers, fax machines, and so forth. Some of us still need to be able to make money, and I'm thankful I have the flexibility to do it from home and look after my daughter. I know many of you are in the same position whether you be mothers or fathers. The items I am including are again FREE. You will need to probably do some surveys, but it's nothing that will kill you. I use these things all the time and, as I have said before, this is what helps me survive in our economy. My absolute favorite item is my Bluetooth Mobile Printer which allows me to print hard copies of documents while I'm out if necessary.

If I want to incorporate these products into my arts hobby, I absolutely can. I use one of these printers to develop photos that I have taken, and they turn out wonderfully. My goal in doing this is just to assist those who are still trying to make something of themselves during these times. I hope you all find these items helpful.

Hey guys,

So yesterday they released the new posthumous single from Michael Jackson, "This is it." Come to find out that the song was actually written 18 years ago with a Puerto Rican singer who is now threatening to sue unless he gets paid royalties and gets credit, and so on. I swear Michael's probably turning in his grave right now because of how his "friends and loved ones" are handling all of his business. So sad! Only several months after he passed away there's a movie and new albums coming out. I understand that the world should acknowledge a great artist. However, this is to the point where financial greed is overshadowing the intentions.

If you haven't listened to the song yet, you may want to hold off. It is kind of disappointing compared to some of the other songs Michael has given us over the years, "Jon Pareles, the chief pop critic of The New York Times, said in a blog it "won't be on anyone's list of best Michael Jackson songs, even if it's a long list" and hoped there was something better in the Michael Jackson vaults of album outtakes."

Another article that included the orginal writer of the song, Paul Anka, claims Jackson "stole" the tapes from his recording studio way back when. OK people, the man is dead already. He went through enough torture when he was alive! I think he got the point already.

Welcome to a new week everyone! For those of you who had to work, take today off. Haha. I was luckily able to find a sitter for my little girl and head to downtown Ft. Lauderdale. My head and liver are still hurting. Anyhow, over the weekend the Human Rights Campaign dinner took place in Washington D.C. For those of you who have ever had a chance to speak to me, you know this is an important issue. I do not put up with ignorance from anyone and feel these issues need to be addressed by someone.

One of the most noted performances of the evening was Lady Gaga with her rendition of the classic John Lennon song "Imagine." According to OMG!, "Gaga's version changed John's lyrics to reference Matthew Shepard, the 21-year-old college student whose tragic 1998 murder in Wyoming inspired government legislation against hate crimes which passed earlier this year." Gaga herself has been surrounded by much controversy with people questioning her sexual orientation. Check out her performance in the video posted here.

The world is boring without it, isn't it? ;-) The National Equality March was set to take place the next day, to which OMG! added, "Gaga also addressed the crowds in a speech at the march's rally on Sunday, as did 'Sex and the City' star Cynthia Nixon, the cast of Broadway's 'Hair,' and Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black. The rally was carried live on C-Span and cable channel Logo went dark in honor of the march."

It's Friday! Who else is excited??? To finish out the week, I decided I should focus on photography since it is still a big part of this blog. To me, photography is very underappreciated considering how vital it is in our everyday lives. It makes memories, shows us what's going on in the world, and entertains us in our favorite magazines. I used to work with photographers and know that it's a whole other world being behind the camera. At one point, I had my own tabletop photo studio, which is not as expensive. It's actually a lot more liberating than being in the photo.

Happy Thursday! Today, I will be discussing the part of the band that brings in all the money. For those of you who have ever been to a concert, at some point during the show you will find yourself zeroing in on these people and watching them play in awe. Well, if it's a good band you will. I'm talking about the guitar players. As I said previously, I go after the drummers; but I have witnessed women countless times fawning over the guitarists. I get it, these guys are talented. Happy Hump Day!

The week is now half over, and I can't wait for the weekend to get here. I'm in the process of looking for a new place, which is hell in South Florida. Shoot me! Anyhow, I hope yesterday's post was able to help someone out. I'm hoping to find some more stuff to link you guys to for free. Anything free is like gold these days. By a show of hands, how many artists/photographers/ musicians out there have no money to buy your supplies? Quite a few? Ok.

I'm a gift cardaholic and have a few to be able to show you guys where to get them. I'm planning on using my $1,000 Sam Ash Gift card within the next two weeks to get my new drums online. Thank you to everyone who made some great suggestions. I'll be rocking out shortly! Haha.

So I have chosen an artist of the day. This came out of nowhere, but I saw his version of art. If you've never heard of Stelarc, he's an artist that uses his own body as a canvas. The piece that I found so strange was that he had an "Internet-enabled" ear implanted on his arm. I don't know. I just don't know. The article in the Seattle Times was talking about him and I thought, "why not?" You never know what strange things people are going to do. Take a look.

Living like a Starving Artist!

Hey all,

There's something important that needs to be addressed today, so I'm interrupting the star of the day theme I had going. I don't know if anyone has noticed, but this country is going downhill financially and we're all going with it. People are not able to find jobs, feed their families, or keep it together emotionally. I myself am feeling the effects also. I don't usually self disclose this much, but I have a 16 month old little girl at home. She's my little angel, and I'd love to give her more in life which isn't possible lately. Does it hurt? Absolutely! One of the ways I've been able to spoil her somewhat without spending a lot of money is making some new clothes for her. Yes, I said MAKING! Let's not get lazy. I know a lot of people don't have time, but it's not time consuming. If you're a parent who's not able to give a lot to their child/children right now, this may be an option.

Happy Monday everybody!!! I hope everyone's weekend was as restful as mine. Back to business though. I had time to think about what I wanted to cover today over the weekend. When I was a little girl, I was in love with the drums and anyone who could play them. My father tried to teach me, but that was shortlived. Looking back, I wish I would've stuck with them. Everyone loves a female drummer, right? Yeah, I know. On that note I'd like to use today to talk about great drummers. They are the back bone of every band regardless of what anyone says. Girls like to swoon over guitar players (which you'll catch me doing once in a blue moon), but drummers are my pick! I may get some argument over my pick for best drummer today, but this man has been my pick for over 15 years. If anyone disagrees, run to the comments section!

I know I've just upset someone! :-) I have several reasons for choosing Mr. Adler, so hear me out for a moment. Number 1- Even after having a heart attack and two strokes, the man taught himself to play drums again. That's a real drummer. Number 2- Listen to Appetite for Destruction and tell me it's not awesome! I know everyone listens to Welcome to the Jungle every now and then.

If there are any aspiring drummers out there, learn from this man. If I had more discipline, I would have stuck with the drums myself. Remember gentlemen...drummers get the chicks! haha.

I was thinking about which artist has really had an impact today, and it was funny that the first one that came to my mind was also linked with Yoko Ono. Maybe the lady's bad luck, who knows? All I know is this man is a huge icon in my favorite genre of art...pop art. Many questioned his sexuality, religious beliefs, and overall mental health. I think you know who I'm talking about.

As you can see, I haven't been on here since March. Life gets busy sometimes. Anyhow, I had a sudden creative urge to get back on Blogger and turn my page into a haven where artists, musicians, and everyone in between can be noticed. Let it be known also that almost 40 years after breaking up, they are still breaking records. In my opinion, these guys inspired and continue to inspire all the artists that we consider unique today.

Rihanna and Chris Brown returned yesterday to Los Angeles after what some were calling a "reconciliation" weekend at a Miami-area home owned by Sean "Diddy" Combs.

Photos on celebrity news site TMZ appeared to show Brown, 19, and Rihanna, 21, arriving on the West Coast via private jet early yesterday, after a weekend at Combs' Star Island mansion.

The reunion came three weeks after Brown allegedly assaulted the "Disturbia" singer during a pre-Grammy ceremony altercation.

While Rihanna apparently kept a low profile during the Florida getaway, Brown was photographed jet skiing in the waters around the Combs compound.

Some sources told Us magazine that Brown will be arraigned in Los Angeles on Thursday on charges stemming from the duo's Feb. 8 altercation.

Since then, Rihanna has reportedly traveled alone to Los Angeles, Mexico and her native Barbados, while Brown has spent time in Las Vegas and his Virginia hometown.

Rihanna's father this weekend told Us magazine that he supported his daughter's decision -- whether it was to stay with Brown or end the relationship.

"I'm behind her, win or lose," Ronald Fenty told Us. "I will be supportive. If that's the road she wants to choose, I'm behind her. I hope to see her soon. I talked to her after her birthday, and she told me she's OK."

People magazine reports that Brown called Rihanna on her 21st birthday, one week ago. "He called to wish her happy birthday," a source told the magazine.

"They've reached out to each other. It's been mutual."

This is a Grade A treat! Become a pro at decorating cakes using the Wilton cake decorating tools. Our simple yellow cake recipe below provides a delicious canvas for your next masterpiece.

Basic Yellow Cake

Ingredients:

3 cups sifted cake flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoons salt
1 3/4 cups sugar
2/3 cup butter or margarine
2 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 1/4 cups milk

Makes: Cake serves 12.

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease bottom of two 8-inch round cake pans and line with waxed paper or parchment paper. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt; set aside. Cream sugar and butter together until light. Add eggs and vanilla to creamed mixture and beat until thoroughly mixed. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating well after each addition. Continue beating one minute. Spread batter evenly in prepared pans. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool layers in pans on wire racks 10 minutes. Remove from pans; cool completely. Fill and frost as desired.

I am going to discuss what makes certain mixers better than others so that the beginners can have a decent understanding of why to choose one mixer over another. First of all, a good mixer usually has a pretty strong brand name to stand by it, so that you know you are getting a mixer of good quality that will last through years of abuse. The brands that are universally recognized as having high quality mixers are the following: Rane, Vestax, Stanton, Urei, Allen & Heath, Pioneer, Mackie, Ecler, and Audio Innovative.

However, this is not always the case as some lesser-quality brands sometimes surprise us with a good product such as the American Audio QD5-MK2, Numark DXM-Pro Series Mixers, Gemini UMX series Mixers, ; and other times great brands put out bad products…but overall the list is pretty accurate.

If you are looking to purchase a mixer, then the first thing you need to know is how many channels you want to mix simultaneously. Usually a two-channel mixer will suit your needs with two Phono (vinyl) inputs and two line (CD) inputs. Next, you want to look for a good, high-quality crossfader that will last through use. A good crossfader is one that will work for a long time without losing its sound integrity.

If a fader starts going bad, it will bleed, pop, and break up the sound pretty bad. Most of the mixers in that list above will have a crossfader to suite your needs. The most reliable and durable styles of crossfaders are Penny & Giles Faders, Pro-X-Faders, Magnetic Faders (used in Rane TTM-56 and Ecler Hak-380), Optical faders and VCA faders. The Magnetic Faders and Optical Faders (e.g. focus fader) use no type of contacts and only light to transmit signals; so these faders may out-last the mixer itself!!! The P&G, Pro-X-Fader, and VCA (Vestax style).

The next item to look at when purchasing a mixer is the Line Switches, EQ controls, and Cue (headphone) controls. The line-phone switch at the top of each channel should be replaceable and durable. For the scratch junkies out there, you will also want those switches to be 8-way adjustable so that you can have the switch move in a way that is comfortable to you. Make sure the feel of the EQ control is just right for your style of spinning.

Some people like EQ knobs and others like the sliders. Some mixers are accused of having small space between each EQ knob making it difficult to fine-tune the mix. Some mixers, such as the Urei series have also been accused of having an EQ delay, meaning that the sound doesn’t alter as soon as the knob is moved. To avoid issues like this, it is best to go and try out every mixer on your list of hopefuls at your local DJ store (Guitar Center or Sam Ash).

Whether it's jazz, blues, or Billy Joel, a harmonica purchase will jump start your music career. There are a few things you need to know before you journey forth on your hunt for the perfect harmonica.

Step 1
Decide which type of harmonica is right for you. There are three styles of harmonica: diatonic, tremolo and chromatic. For a better understanding of each of these, check out this website. Suzuki has good descriptions of each kind. For beginners, the diatonic harmonica is highly recommended. A diatonic has ten holes and is a fairly easy instrument on which to learn.

Determine which material you would like your harmonica to be made from. Harmonicas come in plastic, wood and metal. Any of these are fine for beginners, but serious harmonica players tend to prefer metal over plastic and wood because they claim wood and plastic leak too much air.

Step 4

Budget for your harmonica purchase. The instrument has a huge range in price, but most harmonica experts suggest spending the few extra dollars to get a quality machine. You will find harmonicas starting at $5 to $10, but consider spending around $35 to get the most bang for your buck.

Step 5

Browse and comparison shop before buying. Book stores and hobby shops will sell harmonicas at affordable prices, and even throw in a beginner songbook with the purchase. This might be a good option for younger learners, or for those who aren't sure if they will be life long harmonica players. For more serious beginners, a music specialty shop or instrument retailer will offer mid- to high-end harmonicas.

Step 6

Do not preoccupy yourself with the brand of harmonica. Plenty of instrument makers have quality harmonicas. Hohner is the most well-known brand of harmonica, but plenty of others are just as wonderful. As long as you make an informed decision, you will be very happy with your purchase.

A drum machine is nice, but what can this box do for the average guitarist? Quite a bit, actually. Connection is a breeze. Simply plug any electric or acoustic-electric guitar 1/4-inch cable into the clearly labeled input port on the front of the unit. Next, activate the rock-solid chromatic tuner with a simple press of the "Tuner" button. The tuner is activated and the output signal is muted. Backing Band In A Box
The DR-880 provides several ways to create backing percussion and bass sounds:

I used the DR-880 for several months to act as a bass guitarist and drummer for our small church band. It never missed a practice, and never missed a beat. The ability to mix guitar, bass, and drum through separate volume controls was key to balancing the DR-880 with the rest of the group.

The instruction manual was difficult to follow, but after you've spent enough time with the unit it all begins to make sense. Many users strongly recommend the instructional video to quickly understand how to program the unit and understand some of the built-in shortcuts.

Blemishes
Nothing's perfect, and you may not agree with some of what I classify as blemishes, but it's only fair that I tell you of what I view as weaknesses of the DR-880. You can backup the data on the DR-880 (a plus), but you can only back it up as a bulk file. There's no way to export a set of patterns, for example, edit them on your PC, then reload the updates for playback. By far, the greatest limitation is the lack of expandable memory. Fewer and fewer recordable devices are fixed memory, but the Dr. Rhythm is one of them. Perhaps even worse, there's no way to know if you're about to exhaust available memory. When you hit the max, the machine simply says "Memory Full." Time to clear memory and restart from backup.

Overall Impression
I recommend the Boss DR-880. The drum and bass sounds are great, the built-in features for the guitarist provide a variety of sounds to experiment with, and features such as tap-tempo, recording, and beat-by-beat editing give you complete control over over playback and on-stage accompaniment.

How to Embed Photos or Illustrations Inside of Candles

Step 1. Prepare water bath.
Begin by preparing your mold for a water bath. A water bath will be needed in this project. In preparation for the water bath, attach weights to your mold. Also, prepare a water vessel with the appropriate amount of water.

Step 2. Melt wax.
We are using a high melting point wax. The melting point of the wax used here is about 163 degrees F.

Step 3. Pour wax into mold.
With the temperature of your wax at 185-190 degrees F, fill your mold.

Step 4. Submerge photo into wax.
Insert your photo into the wax-filled mold. Fully submerge your photo and allow it to sit for a moment or two. It will soak up wax and displace any air that is within the paper. If there are bubbles still sticking to the photo, try to move the photo around a bit to dislodge as many of the bubbles as possible (chopsticks are handy). Having no bubbles is ideal, but not always practical, so don’t waste too much time on this step. Also, lightly tap the sides of your mold with a blunt instrument to free up any bubbles that may be lurking there.

Step 5. Position Photo using a spoon and wet cloth.
Using the utensil of your choice, position your photo against the sidewall of the mold. A wooden spoon was used here that was pre-heated in the hot wax. If the spoon were cold, the photo would have stuck to it on contact. With the photo in place, take a wet washcloth, wet kitchen towel, or wet paper towels and apply it to the exterior of the mold at the location of the photo.

Step 6. Place mold in water bath.
Place the mold into the water bath. The entire interior will frost right away.
When your shell is as thick as you’d like it, remove the mold from the water bath. 3/8 to ½ of an inch is a good target thickness.

Step 7. Pour out inner wax.
With the mold removed from the water bath, wipe off any excess water from the exterior surface of your mold. If needed, slice open the top with a paring knife. Pour the core wax back into your pouring pitcher. Many times, the surface will not need to be sliced open, as no wax will have solidified on top.

Step 8. Level the top.
Once the shell is removed from the mold, place a cookie sheet on top of a pot of simmering water. The heated cookie sheet can then be used to melt away some of the wax on the top rim of the hurricane shell. Level the top to provide a clean appearance. If you have an electric griddle, you may wish to use that in a similar manner on low heat.

Step 9. Insert Votive
Insert a votive holder containing a votive candle inside your finished shell. Enjoy.

Other new features like the RPG-8 Monophonic Arpeggiator and ReGroove Mixer inspire creative new ways for building tracks, while classic devices like Subtractor and Malstrom continue to hold their own as some of the best sounding recreations of analog gear to date.

For better or worse. Till death do us part. They'll be prying this piece of software from my cold dead hands. I don't need "a" reason to live... I need Reason 4 by Propellerhead to live.
